Coaches, Parents and Players,
The JR NBA Skills Competition, Mini-Clinic, and 3-on-3 Event is divided up like so:
Opening five minutes: Registration, Dynamic Warm-Up, Lay-Ups
15-20 Minutes: Explanation of the Skills Competition, Player Practice Round, Player Recorded Final Round.
* Read ALL rules here on how to run event, break ties and how to report to the JR NBA (players ages 14 and under) – BOYS use 29.5, GIRLS use 28.5 balls
Coaches have the scores taped and they report the scores on the weekly chart.
See the video of the Skills Challenge and ALL RULES link at the end of this blog!
Note that younger kids will not be shooting three-pointers.
20-30 Minutes: Coaching of 2-3 Basic teaching points on offense – how to get open, spacing, moving without the ball, give and go, pass and screen away or pick and roll. If time permits, 1-2 teaching points on defense – contain, jump to the ball, bump the cutter, be in help, box out. Coaches narrow the focus each week and adjust for the age group.
30-40 Minutes: 3-on-3 Game time! Coaches split the kids into teams (and take into consideration free agents and teams that came together) and the kids play short games to 5-11 points depending on the number of kids in the gym. Coaches determine if round-robin format or how to come up with a daily winning team.
Prizes: We report the highest scores to the JR. NBA by February 20, 2017. We also will give out packs of gum, pats on the back, shout outs for all those who worked hard, demonstrated their skill work, listened to the coaches and were good teammates!
Players can drop-in but the parent MUST sign the waiver and the fee is $20. Exceptions are Motion winter team players, Milbank team players.
