Friday Night Hoops – Format for Coaches
Coaches Teaching Friday Night Hoops
Each Session is between 90 – 120 Min. The sessions will vary with skill. Basics work for all up the difficulty for those that are ready.
First 20 Minutes – Work up to game speed
– Ball Handling, Pass & Catch Drills, Layups, Form Shooting, Footwork for what to do after setting off ball Screen
Basketball Movement Warm Up – 10 Minutes
– Dynamic Stretch Routine with Ball in Hand, Footwork, and upper body/core focus
Sprints – 3-5 minutes – NO SUICIDES – Call Them Line Touches
One on One Scoring from 6 Spots – 7 minutes
Top Top Wing Wing Corner Corner, Each Basket is a different spot to score from with dribble restriction. If more than two kids per basket use extra player as passer, so kids catch and square to basket on pass and attack.
Pass and Catch Layups – 8 Minutes
Bounce Passes to Lane staying low. Cutter works on purposeful cut. Passer works on timing and pass placement, Passes from wings and Baseline to cutters
3 on 0 break – 5 minutes
No Ball hits the Floor – Even Made Baskets Groups Spring Back on outside of court to fill Lanes at Starting point. Play for a score. Emphasis should be RUNNING WIDE, the jump stop at foul line, ball fake, timing of passes
3 on 0 half court – 10 minutes
Teach an Action, Pass and Screen Away. Keeping Good Spacing – Where to set Screen – After Screen Footwork
Partner Sprints – 5 – 7 Minutes
Partner not running is exercising or two ball dribbling
Play with remaining time
Emphasis Ball Movement and Screen Away
Stretch – 6 – 8 minutes.
This is a workout meant to get skill work in and conditioning up. Do not expect a lot from the players mentally. Keep it Simple, Keep it Focused, & Push Enthusiasm
