Mo’ Motion Crisis Management Procedure
Mo’Motion Crisis Management Plan
Emergency situations may arise during Mo’Motion programs, practices, games or events. Action must be taken immediately in order to minimize the impact. Preparation for such situations is key and the appropriate action plan consists of proper coverage, maintenance of equipment, communication and continuing education in the area of emergency response.
Coach’s Role
The head coach of the session is responsible for taking the lead in an emergency situation. Use your judgment to determine if any or all of the following actions may be necessary.
- Bring participants to safe area and/or
- Dial 911 or delegate to a specific adult to call dial 911
- Keep children, spectators and parents calm
- Clear pathway where possible to allow authorities to access emergency site
- Meet with emergency staff and provide required info
It may be necessary to call or delegate call to 911 then get to safe area or get to safe area first, then call 911. Please see “Effective Communication” below.
Facilities
Prior to the start of any session, the location should be reviewed for any possible hazards and secured at all times. Please refer to Appendix A detailing the current Mo’Motion gym locations and their medical emergency equipment, communication devices, and exits.
Assessing Equipment Issues
Please see appendix for details regarding the equipment available at each gym location. At the start of each fall season, it is the responsibility of the Head of Coaching to take inventory of the supplies available at each location and note any equipment issues. If coaches come across any non-functioning equipment over the course of the season, they are required to bring it to the attention of the head of coaching. The Director of Operations and Executive director will be responsible for addressing the issue, involving the location staff if necessary. Maintenance of first aid kids is the responsibility of the Mo’Motion staff. Site staff is responsible for the maintenance of all other emergency equipment.
Effective Communication
It is the responsibility of the head coach on duty to ensure that a phone call is made to emergency authorities if deemed necessary. This responsibility may be delegated to an assistant coach, parent or volunteer, but a specific person must be selected and directions must be made clear. If a call is made, the responsible party must stay calm, give all details, provide the location and answer any questions. Do not hang up until dispatcher is satisfied.
Post-Emergency Analysis
After emergency a thorough evaluation will be conducted. The following should be considered:
- Why did the emergency happen?
- Could it have been prevented?
- Was the situation handled appropriately?
Injury reports and necessary legal reports must be filled in by those involved in the incident. It is the responsibility of the staff on duty to ensure all reports are obtained. The Director of Operations is responsible for maintaining the appropriate records.
