EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Maureen Holohan

Maureen “Mo” Holohan is a former high school All-American (Troy H.S./Troy, N.Y.), New York State Class A Champion, state MVP and three-time All-Big 10 Player who played at Northwestern University from 1990-1995.  Maureen also played professional basketball briefly in Israel after graduating with a degree in journalism with honors.

Maureen’s coaching career has included short stints as a high school and college coach.  She believes that her skill sets best serve youth players through high school players who need proper development or to improve mechanics, practice habits or techniques.  Her players and parents buy into her proper practice and disciplined game play methodology and trust her guidance when it comes to deciding when is the best time to begin travel basketball, which is necessary, at a point, depending on several factors.  Maureen has coached recreational players and beginners right up through male and female college and pro players, including an Olympian and Top 50 high school player.

Maureen, who moved to Manhattan in 2003 as a seventh grade English and history teacher,  is also a published freelance writer and author of her girls’ sports series called The Broadway Ballplayers.  She led Mo’ Motion and the Gotham Basketball Association to win a 2017 Jr. NBA Program of the Month award, and recognition from the Hoosie Martin Grant Foundation.  Maureen is the builder of almost all of Mo’ Motion’s IMPACT initiatives, including efforts to raise to date $700,000 in support of equity and inclusion for girls in sports and teams in need of support.  Through the network of parents and supporters at Mo’ Motion, Mo and her staff and board have been successful in raising funds that have been used to replace scoreboards, backboards, rims and nets at locations between Harlem and the upper west side.

Maureen is a member of the NYS Section II Hall of Fame and the Boys and Girls Club Hall of Fame.  Within the last six years, Maureen has completed several 5K-20K distance swim events. She is certified as a NASM Youth Sports Fitness trainer, and in corrective exercises.  She also trained to be a certified EMT during the pandemic.  Maureen can be reached at mo@momotion.org
