It’s Parent Challenge Time!

It’s time for the parents to break a good Mo’ Motion Sweat with our Parent Challenge Fundraiser that is now better known as “Take A Parent (or a Sub) to Practice Day!”

Note that this workout is optional for parents, but it is mandatory for all team players as a team practice (even if you do not bring a parent).  Players are free to bring a sibling, aunt or uncle as a sub for a parent.  Both parents are also welcome, and if you are injured and do not want to play (and we are suggesting that everyone have a recent physical or get one before you participate per our waiver), you are more than welcome to watch, cheer and laugh.  Expect a fun workout of easy drills (no injuries), fun contests and friendly scrimmage time.

Parents have donated $50-$10,000 per parent/family in support of Mo’ Motion, Inc. and gothambasketball.com (see the breakdown of areas in need below).  Mo’ Motion, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization,  is the heart, soul, engine, and bill payer behind our local and convenient “travel” basketball league gothambasketball.org.  With almost 80 teams annually, we are the biggest, hottest, coolest and most inclusive league in Manhattan for girls and boys!

WHY ARE WE FUNDRAISING?  Every year during gothambasketball.org league play, we do rounds of Parent Challenges for as many teams in the grades 4-8 programs as possible. The Gotham Basketball Association is a league that we started in 2009 with six boys’ teams.  This year we have fielded  75+ teams – and a near equal amount of boys’ and girls’ teams.  The league is one giant money pit for us – insurance, financial aid for teams, gym rental, score clocks, management fees, etc.  Parents who participate in Parent Challenge events are asked for an optional donation to Mo’ Motion that supports one of the following areas of need:

• GBA League Fees – mostly for team financial aid.  Many teams do not have paying participants.
• GBA High School & College Student Staffing Fund – we pay high school kids to work the tables.
• Mo’ Motion Sponsored Teams and Weekday/Weekend Programming for our IGNITE Program at PS 191
• Mo’ Motion Scholarship Fund for players who need financial aid

2020 Goal:  $70,000 ($40K for Motion/$30K for GBA)

Check your team schedule in the SportsEngine App to find out when your parent challenge is booked (within a regularly scheduled practice usually on Saturdays for all team players)!
